A Las Vegas native, Jonah Jakin is a 10 year old who has loved art since he was a toddler, and began painting extensively with acrylics on canvass at age 7. Inspired by the colors in TV cartoons, he uses his fingers and brushes to create intense flows of color on canvass, and he throws, drips, and sprays his paint to create beautiful abstract designs. Art appeals to Jonah because, in his words, “When I paint, no one tells me what to do. I can do whatever I want. And you never know how it’s going to turn out!” His process? “I’m sorry, I can’t tell you…it’s my secret! And when I like it, I call it all good; but when I don’t, I just start from scratch!”
So far, all of this artist’s young life has been connected to downtown Las Vegas. He was born at University Medical Center, he attends a downtown school, and he lives downtown. For Jonah Jakin, life is not only beautiful, “…it’s a work of art, saturated with colors, and that’s what makes me happy.”
